Improving How You Move

Whether you walk, bus, drive, BART, or bike, this measure will get you where you need to go faster and safer.

Improving Our Streets

We need to fix our local streets and roads to make them safer for everyone. Measure X includes significant funding to repair our streets, fix potholes, and improve the quality of our county roads. This measure designates funding to go directly to local cities and towns to fund road repair in their community. The measure also provides funding to improve bicycle and pedestrian routes and ensure they are safe and accessible.

Improving Our Highways and Major Roads

Traffic is getting worse and we need to address it now. Congestion on major highways and streets is slowing our county down. Measure X will fund a variety of innovative projects that will reduce traffic congestion on major freeways, streets and interchanges. It provides funding to study and make major improvements on Interstates 80 and 680, and Highways 4, 24, and 242, including high capacity transit and other transit alternatives. It also funds traffic light synchronization and other technology that will smooth traffic on major thoroughfares.

Improving BART

Measure X includes funding to add more BART cars in Contra Costa County to help reduce the overcrowding that many of us face and allow more people to ride the system. It will also funds expansions to BART parking for both cars and bikes, and improves connectivity to BART for pedestrians, buses and other public transit. This will help you access the system quickly and efficiently.

The measure will also continue the East Contra Costa eBART expansion to Antioch that is currently in process, with service to Antioch expected to start by the beginning of 2018. Measure X will bring eBART from Antioch to a new station in Brentwood, with a stop in Oakley on the way.

Improving Bus Service

Many commuters depend on our bus system to get to work or home. We need to increase accessibility to the system, and improve your ability to connect to other transit – like BART and rail – by bus. This measure makes an unprecedented investment in our public transit system, including expanding bus service in every part of the county. Funding from the measure will help increase service on busy routes, expand bus service into new areas of the county, improve accessibility to buses, and upgrade facilities. It will also support school bus programs and reduced fares for children and seniors.
